Bleeding Gums Scholes Periodontics & Implants AZ 85224Virtually everyone, at some point or another, has experienced bleeding gums. Whether it's due to skipping flossing for a few days or because you actually injured yourself during your oral hygiene routine, it is not uncommon to experience some light bleeding in the gum tissue from time to time.

But just how serious is this bleeding? Should you be concerned? Is there any hope for a recovery? We are here to help answer these questions and help you understand what you should do if you begin to notice bleeding in your gums.

Bleeding Can Be a Sign of Serious Trouble

First, the bad news: if your gums are bleeding, it could indicate gum disease. Because of this, if the bleeding is heavy or continues for more than a few days, we suggest that you come see us right away. Let us take a look, and we can help you determine just how serious the matter is.

Depending on the seriousness of the matter, we may have one or more recommendations for you. But first things first: come see us and let us inspect your gums.

Bleeding Is Not Always a Big Deal

Of course, the flip side of that is the fact that virtually everyone experiences some bleeding from time to time. If you have neglected your dental hygiene routine for a few days, your gums may bleed lightly when you begin flossing again.

By itself, this is not a huge issue. Just continue flossing gently and regularly, and within a few days the issue should resolve itself. The very early stages of gum disease are highly reversible, and if you keep at it with proper home care, you should notice the bleeding diminishing quickly and then disappearing completely.
