Frenectomy in Chandler, AZ
A frenum is a muscle attachment that forms naturally in the mouth, usually seen between the two front teeth. It can occur on the upper teeth or the lower teeth. This muscle helps to attach the lip to the gums. In some people this muscle can attach too close to the teeth, leading to spacing between the teeth or pulling on the gums causing recession. Often this is seen in patients who are having orthodontic (braces) treatment. A simple procedure called a frenectomy will be performed in our comfortable office environment under local anesthetic. The frenum will be removed and when needed, a gingival graft can be placed to correct recession.
